Simply, MIN-YO means people's song. In the beginning there were just voices, later with primitive percussion.
Back in our great-grandfathers' days, we Japanese sung and danced MINYO day and night everywhere on the mountains or in the rice fields of rural countryside of Japan.
And now we great-grandchildren DJ duo named Riyo Mountains dig MINYO records day and night and play it at the tiny minimal club in the big city Tokyo.
There are full of agricultural beats, herring wave, drunken chants, rustic rap, yokel yodel and ritual dance music. You may hear some Japanese anonymous Moe Tucker, John Fahey, Tony Conrad with Faust, Arthur Russell, Pierre Bastien or Don Van Vliet.
